Introduce yourself and your music:
Hello! I’m Marcus. I provide guitar and vocals to All The Best Tapes. Luke plays bass and Danny plays the drums. We’re a three-piece progressive, punk-rock band from Stoke, UK.
How would you describe your sound and lyric style?
Progressive, math-infused, punk-rock jazz, with a heavy disposition toward big riffs and effects pedals.
When I sit down to write, I like to craft more of a winding musical journey than a traditional 4/4 punk thrash – not that we don’t enjoy a bloody good one of those either. Lyrically, on this record I’ve leaned toward writing on subjects more fantastical that capture my imagination more than on previous records: Ufology, Cult TV, infamous criminals, Soviet conspiracy theories, that sort of fare.
Who are your main influences?
Personally, for my guitar work I love the structure and effortless technicality of the timeless players like Les Paul and Chet Atkins but Rush’s Alex Lifeson and King Crimson’s “Discipline” era line up of Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew are both big influences on my playing and writing within ATBT.
What are you working on now?
Almost straight away, I began work on writing the next record – but I wouldn’t expect a finished article before the end of the year.
Are you touring now?
Not at the moment, but we do have a handful of UK shows coming up.
What can people expect at your live gigs?
A loud sonic trip! We’re pretty fond of mixing it up at our shows and jamming it out in songs, adding little bursts and riffs whilst sweating a lot.
Where can people check out your music?
