FEATURE ARTIST: SMILEX

blood band2aIntroduce yourself and your music:
Hi! I’m Lee Christian – I make lots of music. Today we’re talking about my awesome alternative rock band Smilex! How would you describe your sound and lyric style?
We are melodic edgy rock – inspired by, but not only, a whole host of 90’s rock bands. When we play with metal bands they think we’re indie. When we play with indie bands, they think we’re metal. Lyrically speaking: Rage is a must, despair is unavoidable, depravity is always fun and searching for something higher/more rewarding than this slavery we call everyday existence.

Who are your main influences?
In this band I would say Rage Against The Machine, Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Jane’s Addiction, but to be honest I bring a lot of different influences to it that are not set in a rock mould. I find I don’t really care about rock bands now as most of them have really let us all down and become lazy and fat.

What else inspires you?
The Catholic Church, the Government, the ignorance of idiots, celebrity culture, manatees, drugs, sex, death…

What are you working on now?
A whole host of videos & bits for the Smilex album.

Are you touring now?
We have just finished a little set of dates to promote the record – just before it came out. Being honest, as much as I love playing live, we actually reach fewer people at great cost and effort than we would with a video on Youtube!

What can people expect at your live gigs?
A completely different experience to most gigs – usually gigs are just passive and clinical. We bring the dirt right up in your face and make you feel something. Usually fear, revulsion or hatred but hey, it’s better than the Kings of Leon! I hate going to gigs these days – so little effort, interaction or inspiration. We are the polar opposite of that.

Where can people check out your music?
Check out: www.smilex.co.uk

There’s also loads of free stuff to entertain yourself with on Youtube, Soundcloud, Spotify, Bandcamp, Reverberation etc.
