As we continue our run of End Of Year features, we decided to sit down with Tom Myers of Papa Vs Pretty and find out his favourite albums of 2013.
The Drones – I See Seaweed – this is one of the best Australian albums in recent memory. Big call, but I’m into this record a lot . Gareth Liddiard is a wordsmith and has such a unique delivery. The record grabs you by the scruff of the neck and doesn’t let go. An awesome album.
Atoms For Peace – Amok – I fell in love with this record on the first listen. The personnel on this record is also pretty impressive. Flea’s bass playing is so tight and awesome. I love Thom Yorke’s vocal melodies, they riiiise and faaaallll and always seem to drift so effortlessly above the track. Catchy tunes, I found myself humming along after just a few spins.
Karnivool – Asymmetry – Headbanger. I’ve been a fan of Karnivool for a while now, such an amazing live band. I really like the progression from the last album to this one, I reckon that’s really important in a band, also watching/listening to Steve Judd drum is an absolute masterclass. Drummers take note.
Queens of the Stone Age – …Like Clockwork – Another long term fan here. I love QOTSA a lot. I think the most notable thing about this record is that its an ALBUM. An awesome collection on songs that go so well together. Off to see them in March and I can’t wait!
Savages – Silence Yourself – I thought I’d leave my favourite record of 2013 till last. This rekkid is seriously badass. Kinda punk rocky, it always leaves me a bit speechless, it’s a total punch in the face! They’re coming out in Feb. See you there!
