SXSW 2013 FEATURE ARTIST: DANCE FOR THE DYING

DFTD pic
Introduce yourselves – where are you from and who plays what?
HEY! We are Dance for the Dying from Washington, D.C.
Individually we are:
M.C.- Vocals and other stuff
Josh- Guitar and synth
Chris- Drums and percussion
Brad- Bass and Synth

How would you describe your sound and style?
We are a joyful melancholy. The songs we made in the past sounded something like The Cure and Blondie on laser skate night, but our current songwriting has led us in the direction of New Order and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s at a roller derby bout.

You’ll be heading along to SXSW 2013 – what are you looking forward to most?
M.C: Meeting new people, hearing bands we haven’t heard before, learning life lessons.

What are you hoping to take away from attending this year?
Josh: SWAG ! I’m hoping to make a lot of friends in other bands across the states and have some good times and maybe bump into Tegan or Sara.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received [or given] to “take on” SXSW?
M.C: Don’t break up the band, it’ll all get better on the ride home.
Josh: Don’t sleep, and be prepared to carry your shit across some city blocks cause there is no where to park!

Are there any other bands you are looking forward to seeing?
Josh: Tegan and Sara, Alt-J, Donora, SharkWeek, The Joy Formidable.

Where can people catch your sets at SXSW?
Two of the spots you can find us are :
Big Picture Media’s RoofTop Rodeo at The Blind Pig 4/14 and
DC vs Austin at The Sidebar 4/15.

Alternatively, for those not attending this year – where can our readers check out your music?
