Introduce yourselves – where are you from and who plays what?
Greetings Push to Fire, the pleasure is all ours.  We’re Mission South, our members are Dan Miller (Guitar/Vocals), John Beck (Bass/Vocals), and Max Harwood (Drums/Vocals).  We all grew up together in the DC area, and that is where we currently reside.
How would you describe your sound and style?

That’s a tough one, mainly because it is continually evolving.  At it’s core our music is definitely a roots/rock blend, but we try to expose ourselves to as much music as possible so it’s likely you’ll hear hints of pop, jazz, soul and folk. No matter what we do our focus is always on strong songwriting and energetic live performance.

In terms of who we sound like, people frequently liken us to Ben Harper, Kings of Leon and The Black Keys.

You’ll be heading along to SXSW 2013 – what are you looking forward to most?
Getting signed by a major record label of course.  That’s what happens to all the bands that go to SXSW right?  [laughs] and the food trucks, we’re excited for those too.

What are you hoping to take away from attending this year?
This is our first year, and we decided it’d be smart to just soak up as much as we can.  However, we also want to promote our new album “Migration Vol.2” and the music video we have coming out — it’s this crazy thriller with a hitman and an intense car accident scene that we think is going to blow people away. We’re also looking forward to meeting new bands that we can play with in the future.  We do all our own booking right now so that kind of networking is huge for us.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received [or given] to “take on” SXSW?
Hydrate (a.k.a. whiskey waters)

Are there any other bands you are looking forward to seeing?
Alt-J comes to mind, they just played in DC on a Monday and the show sold out real quick.  Jack White is a big inspiration to all of us, and he always pulls something cool out for the festival.  The point though is really to discover new music, to find out who will be the next Jack White.
