Introduce yourselves- where are you from and who plays what?
We are Walking the Cow – a band from Florence, Italy. We are Michelle (vocals), Nico Volvox (piano, organ and synths), Martino (drums and mini-korg), Paolo (bass, guitar, bouzuki) and Simone “Bardus” (Guitar, bouzuki and mandolin).

Describe your sound/lyric style
Our music has many influences; we have often been described as “avant-folk” “psychedelic-song writing” or simply “electro-pop-folk”. So yeah, we are a bit of a hybrid! Our lyrics are all written by Michelle, who is originally from the USA. She talks about love, childhood, and dreams but she especially likes to play with words and details.

Who are your main influences? What else inspires you?
Our main influences are Califone, Microphones, Broadcast, Daniel Johnston, Stelvio Cipriani, Os Mutantes, Faust, Midlake, Johnny Cash, Ennio Morricone, Fiery Furnaces, John Fahey, Can, White Noise, Pavement, Pixies, Stereolab, Fairport Convention and Pere Ubu. Michelle grew up with Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, Joni Mitchell and is in love with Joanna Newsom, Laura Veirs, Shannon Wright and Sharon von Etten. Walking the Cow are inspired by childhood, by growing up and by change. Life is like a big kaleidoscope of colours and experiences and we would like to capture this with our music.

What are you working on now?
We are working on a few soundtrack songs for a website (it is still a top secret project) and we are planning on publishing our first video online. We are working on a few new songs because we are planning on releasing our next album in the fall of 2013.

Are you touring now? When/where?
We have a few gigs in the Tuscan area but we are working on putting up a little Italian tour. Our gigs will be:

10 November – Capanno Black Out (Prato)
28 December – Glue Alternative Concept Space (Florence).

A tour in the USA would be a blast!

What can people expect at your live gigs?
People can expect honesty and holding-hands. We like to think that we are able to touch the audience, with our goofy yet somewhat interesting presence. Michelle keeps her eyes closed most of the time, but she loves to smile. Bardus is really passionate about his solo-moments and Martino is a great drummer (so they say!).
