Smash Fashion – Blame It On The Brandy/Marionette [Single]

It’s not everyday that you hear a modern band revive the glam rock of the 80s, with a similar style of crooning that you would expect from David Bowie. Thankfully, that’s where Smash Fashion step in.

Their idea is simple – play a tried and true genre, and bring it into a modern context – without losing the retro vibe that made this style of music so formidable in the late 70s/early 80s. And boy, do they hit the nail on the head.

Lead single, ‘Blame It On The Brandy’ immediately grabs my attention. With its infectious rhythm, ‘other-worldly’ vocal delivery and catchy hooks – the track drums up a wonderful array of glam rock vibes.

Additional track, ‘Marionette‘ ultimately follows suit – this time drawing on a heavier style of early rock, not once wavering from the bands vision and persona. This is band that know what they want to do, and do it well.

As a first taste, this 7” single [yes, it’s in vinyl form] is a perfect introduction to the LA-based four-piece. With the rippling guitars, aesthetically pleasing vinyl singles and a sound that would make David Bowie turn his head in surprise, there is a lot of promise as to what the future holds for Smash Fashion.
