Blacklisters unveil new single

With an ear for volume Brew took note of a new band creating a significant impact on the UK underground scene. Riddled with dark humour, famed as the nicest band in the UK and boasting a proven penchant for ability-driven, full-throttle performances, the band they noticed is Blacklisters.
Releasing their new single Trickf*ck on Monday 27th February 2012 on the powerhouse record label of the North, Brew (Holy State, Hawk Eyes, Castrovalva, Kong, Humanfly, These Monsters) the track is the most visceral and heaviest from the upcoming debut album, dealing with the subject of handsome and yet incredibly stupid men.
From the very outset, Blacklisters transports you into an unrelenting, rampage of rock. Billy Mason-Wood’s skewed and often terrifying vocals demand your undivided attention as Dante Beesley’s sharp guitar lines compliment a thudding brick backbone via Owen Griffith’s marauding basslines and Alistair Stobbart’s drums.
After forming in 2008, Blacklisters quickly earned a reputation as a formidable live act through aggressive and entertainingly confrontational gigs. In 2009, the Swords 7” was released to critical acclaim, while 2010 saw the release of the Belt Party EP. The latter gained the band further positive coverage in the national press, including Artrocker Magazine’s single of the week.
With a defiant attitude, their touring stamina continued to grow throughout 2010 with support slots Melt Banana, Rolo Tomassi and Hawk Eyes amongst others, joining tours with fellow Northern rebels Pulled Apart by Horses and Kong and London friends Japanese Voyeurs. Successful festival appearances at Leeds and Reading 2010 resulted in been asked to open Leeds Festival again in 2011.
Blacklisters returned to the studio immediately to record their debut album. Produced once again by Ross Halden and mastered by Carl Saff (Young Widows, Oxes, Melt Banana), this release negotiates the band’s potential to be a true noise rock contender. Taking cues from label mates Kong, this ear-splitting debut progresses with some impressive sounds. Not only in the decibel-breaking sense, but with a genuine mouthful of grit, determination, passion and strength.

The band’s debut album will be released on Monday 4th April 2012.

SUM 41 FORCED TO PULL OUT OF THE KERRANG! TOUR

Kerrang! regret to announce that Sum 41 have been forced to pull out of the upcoming Kerrang! Tour Sponsored By Relentless Energy Drink. The rest of the line-up remains unaffected.

Frontman Deryck Whibley has been suffering from a recurring back injury and will not be well enough to perform on the 11-date UK and Ireland tour, which is set to kick off on February 4 at Dublin Academy.

“I feel really terrible about letting down the fans,” says Deryck. “I injured my back about eight months ago and the doctors are saying that I could be in a wheelchair. So, as much as I wanted to be able to do it, I’ve got to look at reality, and for the first time I’ve got to listen to somebody else and not just myself. We’re all really upset about this; we’ve had such a great relationship with our UK fans. We were really looking forward to thistour.”

“Kerrang! are really gutted to lose Sum 41 from what will be an unforgettable tour,” says Kerrang! Editor James McMahon. “Let’s be honest, the news totally blows. However the tour must go on and we’re chuffed to say we’ve found a more than worthy replacement. We’re absolutely delighted to announce that The Blackout have offered to step up to the plate and will be taking to the stage with New Found Glory, letlive. and While She Sleeps in February.”

“We’re delighted to step in for Sum 41 at the last minute!” says The Blackout’s co-vocalist Sean Smith. “We’ve played the tour once before [in 2010] and we know what a total laugh it is. But hopefully Sum 41 fans won’t try and murder us! This should be a really, really great tour and we’re all really excited to watch the other bands every night.”

TWELVE FOOT NINJA, JERICCO & CIRCLES JOIN FORCES FOR ‘SWARM TOUR’

Melbourne’s progressive heavy music scene is in fine form in 2012 and how better to celebrate than to combine the force of three of its finest on an impressive triple bill. This March, longstanding genre leaders Twelve Foot Ninja and Jericco will be joined by newcomers, Circles on the national ‘Swarm Tour’.

 Twelve Foot Ninja suspected their live performance was sufficiently honed when they were invited to support international acts Periphery (US) and Tesseract (UK) last year, and prompted Periphery founder /guitarist Misha Mansoor to tweet jubilantly “Twelve Foot Ninja are basically one of the best live bands I have ever seen in my life. Holy f*** they are tight”.    As they put the finishing touches on their debut album, due mid-2012, you can just sense that something big is on its way. It’s only a matter of time before the rest of Australia feels the full force of what Twelve Foot Ninja are bringing to the game. 

 Meanwhile, after three years together, 137 blistering live shows, 8 festival appearances and a stack of sold-out headlining gigs, alternative rock maestros Jericco are gearing up to offer their adoring fan base a taste of things to come.   With two successful EPs and one live album up their sleeve, the five-piece will release the second single – The Art Of Illusion – from their forthcoming debut album on March 1st 2012, just in time to coincide with ‘Swarm Tour’’s commencement.

THE USED RELEASE FIRST SINGLE

The first single off the highly anticipated new album from The Used has been released today via iTunes. The song originally premiered in Australia on January 11th on Triple J’s punk and hardcore show, Short. Fast. Loud. and Blunt Magazine said “’I Come Alive’ sees the one time kings of the emo movement returning for their crown.”

“EN VIVO!” was filmed on 10th April 2011 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour, and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans. With spectacular stage backdrops, dynamic musicianship and a literally jaw-dropping appearance by Eddie, this live show encapsulates to perfection the heart and soul of Iron Maiden 2011.
Bass player and founder member Steve Harris comments “For The Final Frontier Tour it was really important to me that we filmed in South America as we’re always so overwhelmed by the fans’ reaction when we go to that part of the world and I wanted to reflect that in the filming. After much consideration we chose the Santiago show as we felt it was one of our best performances of the entire Tour and to play at the prestigious Estadio Nacional was a landmark moment for us. For reasons known to our fans, it took a long time before we got to play our first show in Chile, and once we did get to play a show, the response was so phenomenal we just had to keep coming back and it’s got better and better each time!
This show also features the gigantic new Eddie. He wasn’t due to make his appearance until our European leg of the tour later in 2011, but we managed to transport him across the sea in a special huge container just in time for the latter end of the South American dates so it was great we were able to immortalize him for the DVD as he really has to be seen to be believed!”
The concert was filmed digitally using 22 HD cameras and an octocam (a flying camera which captures aerial crowd scenes), recorded in both stereo and 5.1 audio and mixed by Maiden’s longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley, all of which serves to accentuate the incredible atmosphere of this compelling performance. Extensive use is made of split screens so fans can follow the individual members closer and the set list moves seamlessly between songs from Maiden’s most recent studio album, 2010’s The Final Frontier through to classic fan favourites via the band’s vast and varied catalogue. DVD Disc Two is a Bonus Disc containing an 88-minute documentary BEHIND THE BEAST. This is also an entirely in-house production by Maiden’s own Krew, led by Andy Matthews, and is intended as an interesting and revealing high quality “home movie” for their fans of how to put on an Iron Maiden tour and what goes on behind the scenes at a show. It describes the extraordinary story of one of the most acclaimed and ambitious touring shows in the world. It illustrates the day to day life and complex tasks of the Maiden Killer Krew and the other characters behind the scenes. The expertise and experience, the problem-solving and successes, the sheer scale and immense difficulties of the undertaking comes to life through the day to day coverage of the tour and the background work of the crews in sound, lighting, carpentry, production and set design. As well as interviews with the Iron Maiden crew, it interweaves anecdotes from the band and their fans, and includes footage of the live show in this comprehensive guide to the intricacies of staging massive, live Stadium shows around the World out of the belly of a Boeing 757.

The bonus disc also contains an extended version of the promo video “Satellite 15…The Final Frontier”, a video about the making of “Satellite 15…The Final Frontier” plus the opening video sequence to The Final Frontier World Tour.

KING CANNONS spent 2011 fighting their way to the front of the line. With their debut album almost complete, 2012 sees them ready to fulfil the promise that they have always been destined to deliver.
The most significant move for KING CANNONS is the inclusion of their new drummer, none other than Dan McKay from THE NATION BLUE. Dan is one of Australia’s most respected musicians and feedback from his performances at Festival Of The Sun, Pyramid Rock and Peats Ridge is the new live show is truly something to behold.

January 2012 also sees the release of an explosive new video for ‘Shot To Kill’.
Front man, Luke Yeoward is pumped for the year ahead for King Cannons, “The last five years have been a hell of a ride. I have lost and found time, places, friends, and lovers. In the first few weeks of 2011 I was a newly wed man. I had a lot to look forward too, and weight of the world’s responsibilities on my shoulders. I was working as a labourer as well as writing songs for the first King Cannons record. Yet, in the back of my mind, I was still thinking about my past, harbouring regret of the hurt I caused the ones who once loved me.”
With the recent release of the ‘Shot To Kill’ video, Luke continues, “I drew heavily from these past experiences, and wrote Shot To Kill as a metaphoric expression. Shot To Kill is me admitting defeat to the shadows of my past, and telling my younger self that cheating will get you nowhere. I fell down from the cloud I was riding. Shot To Kill was the feeling in the pit of my stomach that needed to get out.”

The Beards Launch Album #3 with Extensive Australian Tour

For a band that never expected to play more than one show, The Beards have certainly come a long, long way. Forming as a joke to play a single show in Adelaide, the entirely beard-based band have gone on to become underground legends of the Australian music scene. Since the release of their second album, Beards Beards Beards (2009), The Beards have spread their bearded message throughout Australia with constant touring and countless performances all over the country. Now, The Beards are hitting the road again, and bringing with them their much-anticipated third album, Having a Beard is the New Not Having a Beard.

Anyone who thought this band would be struggling to write more songs about beards will be proven utterly wrong as the Aussie four-piece unleash eleven new songs – each of which is primarily focussed on the importance of having a large amount of facial hair.

“It will be our third concept album about the same concept – the only concept of any importance to any of us – beards!” Explains frontman Johann Beardraven.

Having a Beard is the New Not Having a Beard will pick up where the second album left off, and will see band incorporating bigger, more lavish arrangements, an even more eclectic mix of musical styles and a great deal more instrumentation.

“It’s going to be even more about beards than our last record”, says bassist Nathaniel Beard.

The Having a Beard is the New Not Having a Beard Australian Tour 2012 will take in QLD, NSW, ACT VIC, TAS, SA & WA as one of Australia’s most original bands hammers home its steadfast message: Grow a beard. The album will be released through MGM and available at all good record stores and online from Friday March 9th, 2012.
